User Research
Conducted 10 surveys and 5 interviews
questions in the survey asked users to denote what information was most valuable when looking up a local business. In regards to the interviews, I was able to conduct 5 random in person interviews, with local clients and by providing a $10 dollar gift card provide by business order. When asked about the current process of finding a local business, 60% of users stated they looked up on Google for a location. ADDITIONALLY, 40% of users stated they had remained loyal customers of the business because they liked that they had been going to the same location for years. Finally 80% of users were unsure what documents to fill out for the DMV services and stated that they preferred to go with experienced person to fill out any registration documents.
Research Synthesis
Created a persona based on the insights gained from affinity mapping for the interviews and survey insights.
Insights:
“Many years of experience is an important factor in choosing a business”
“It is difficult to find people to explain registration process in other languages”
“Local business may also provide other services aside form auto registration”
Comparative and Competitive Analysis
In order to gain inspiration and identify the most necessary features for the website, I conducted a competitive analysis two local business that happened to have websites (many of these local businesses do not have websites). ABA AUTO, AND XPRESS MOBILITY while both providing auto registration, they had very different website structure. I also included the DMV website because because one of the interviewees mentioned the site relevant. The CNC assisted me in prioritization of the features.
Usability Testing on Mid-fidelity prototype
What needs to improve?
From our usability testings, I obtained great feedback and insights
Why is there no search bar?
The list of services in the ‘Header’ seemed clickable
Users mentioned that the contact information and location were important to have up top, versus just the footer
User stated additional information like prices and scheduling to be useful.
The colors look too much like Facebook.
Mid-Fidelity Prototype
Based on User Research and competitive analysis, it was essential for me to design 4 mid- fidelity desktop landing page, as well as a landing page for each service provided by the local business.
High Fidelity
Although I was working with a dev at the beginning of the project, he let the owner and myself know that he would be unable to continue. We had talked about the design process and what were best practices for me to hand over my designs for him to code.
After further discussing with my client, we agreed I would create a website using Squarespace. I let client know he would have to pay for the domain and he agreed.
I got to work and designed a site that describes all the services the local business provides and I made sure to include a map for those seeking location of business.
Next Steps
Client to pay domain fee for
Provide translation to Spanish
connect business to DMV list online
Reflection
I realized that as a designer I have to constantly advocate for the user while also attempt to appease the client. I chose to explore new tools to create a logo even tho i am not a graphic designer. I learned a lot about working with a dev, but was also disappointed that we were unable to complete the project together. Overall this was a learning experience and i realized I have much to practice.
